Hot Girl-On-Girl Action (in Video Games)

I followed this link from Sivacracy.

I completely see the point. For an industry that is purporting to attract female gamers, there sure isn’t equality in video games. I’m not just talking Rockstar, here… I thought it odd that World of Warcraft’s succubus didn’t offer an incubus counterpart, and apparently Everquest 2 has a similar problem.

In some games, you don’t even get the option to play a female character. In others, you’re given the option, but when given the chance to have sex with some other character, the character is female.

The reason? The bulk of game-playing America are homophobic, socially challenged men with very vivid fantasies about playing females who get to have sex with other females. Even when female characters are added to the game, they aren’t added with equal importance, nor are they added with the thought that maybe, just maybe, a woman might be playing that female character.

Completely accurate criticism. Vampire: Bloodlines, a game I played to (un)death, slightly moved in that direction, at least- there were men you could only use seduction (a skill) on while playing a male and women you couldn’t use seduction on when playing a female- but for the most part it followed that same trend. (The seduction skill was one of the dialog options used for a couple of purposes. It was one of the options available along with intimidation and persuasion to convince someone to give you information or other benefit, and it was also the option used to “seduce” people in bars and clubs to be able to feed on them without attracting attention.) Come to think of it, although I used the plural in the previous sentence, it should be amended: there was a man that could only be seduced by a man, and a woman that couldn’t be seduced by a woman. For the most part it followed the same traditional game roles noted in the article. The “people” I mentioned in the parenthetical line above were always women.

It was a start, but the gaming industry has a ways to go.

What the hell? You don’t get to play with female characters, in most games, because females aren’t the main those product buyers. It’s a simple business, thats all!

agree with the above – as the market changes we’ll start seeing more variety. but really, seduction should be taking place in the real world 😉

Just found this site via Google.

You get a pretty similar demographic, to be honest, in “The Community”, as popularized by Neil Strauss’s ‘The Game’.

So many guys seem to think that you can learn a bunch of cheesy chatup lines, and then spring some girl and take her back to your geek lair – when will guys learn that you need deep-level identity change to improve your success with women?

In all honesty, females just make boring characters. I mean, can you imagine a TV show with all female characters? zzz

gaming companies are afraid to touch new territories so progress into these areas is very slow.

I agree.. I think gaming companies are afraid to try something new, so females are left out..

some of the time. There will be other technologies and other mediums down the road of time. The only way somethign will be wiped out is if there isn’t a demand for it or a need for it. At least for now, I don’t think they have replaced that demand or got rid of that need for books and libraries. Use it as a tool to find works that you never would have found otherwise and go from there. My 2 cents!

Since I was 21, I liked playing the female character in games. Yep- twas nice to ogle the sinuous form (betrays how repressed I was back then) – but more than that, the female tended to be faster and deadlier.

Now only if they come up with Leisure Lingerie Lala

    😉

hmm some interesting points raised here. i think alot of it has to do with the target audience, the majority of game players out there are male and will therefore prefer to play as a man on the game

I just worry about the impact on 12 year old boys. They can barely speak to a real girl, they have zits, low self esteem, and crazy hormones. Does anyone else see long term problems?

Jill Valentine, hero of Resident Evil 1, 3
Claire Redfield, hero of Resident Evil 2, Code Veronica.

Neither of these girls ever got it on with any other girls, which is too bad.

    The Bloodrayne chick….

Anyway tehre’s tons of girl main characters out there. You just have to look harder than games with an ability to seduce. In the meantime, keep trying to seduce those vampire girls!

It is an unfortunate fact that most game designers and companies look more at trends rather than need, if they do not design games with female players in mind they are realistically ignoring a potential huge market, as an example for males games such as Tomb Raider sold more games because of the Lara Croft heroine than on game play itself, I work for a website design leeds company and most of the males there regardless of age (22 to 57) are gamers, it is a fact however that more males play games and continue to do so through all age groups, I believe that is why they target males, the longevity of player interaction.

    Hi all,

Mark A Briody here from Sydney Australia.

After reading some of the comments I believe there are many new games that will still hit the market designed around a hot looking young woman. Not really anything can be done about it if you don’t like it.

I must admit that some games like the l Croft game was done rather well though. I’m sure plenty of guys (and gals) had interesting thoughts at the time.

Many website designers (my industry) use the same tactics…they call the pictures search stoppers for obvious reasons.

There is one thing that is for sure…sex sells and it always will.

    I wish you all well,

    Mark A Briody

I totally agree. Besides having a female character in games provides some level of equality. These game makers are targeting female players as well to improve their popularity and sales. It will not be all male gamers…it will be female and male gamers playing with each other having their own characters that fits their personalities.

it all depends on what type of game you play. in the sims, you control whoever you want in whatever body style you want. most rpgs include female and male body types, and some have different interactions based on what gender you are, very notably star wars knights of the old republic. if you’re playing shooter games, there are probably going to be male models more often because a heavily muscled female body isn’t too attractive to most people. however, samus and lara croft are always out there. it’s not some conspiracy to keep females out of gaming, it’s just making do with limited resources. take the memory to include female player characters if there’s a good chance girls will actually want to play the game.

Its interesting to see how video game developers are trying to target new consumers. It seems as though nudity and girl on girl action is more accepted in the gaming industry and more games have introduced this into their game play.
